VGL IS AWESOME!
Secondly... after years of waiting and wondering when in heck they will come to Malaysia.. they came and the e-mails and wait was worth it.
As I remembered, they played Metal Gear Solid, Megaman, Mario, Legend of Zelda, Warcraft, Shadow of the Collosus (yay), Sonic the Hedgehog, Kingdom Hearts, FINAL FANTASY VII, CASTLEVANIA, Halo, God of War.. argh. My head can't remember so I remember the ones I want to remember.
:P
I love that they played Shadow of the Collosus because it does contain some of my favourite songs and they've never included it until now.
Sonic the Hedgehog and all the 8-bit games was such a joy.
The video from the creator of the video game was as close to an epiphany as I will ever get. There's the man who basically created my main source of entertainment growing up. Invented the TV? Screw that shit.. VIDEO GAMES!
Kondo Koji speaking English was hilarious and genius all in one (not to mention the guy was involved in Mario and Zelda!).
When Tommy Tallarico (the emcee) said "Who's a fan of Disney?", everybody yelled.. why? Read on. He then said "Who's a fan of Square?" and everybody yelled 'KINGDOM HEARTS!!' and lo, it was.
The highlight was of course FFVII and Castlevania (for me). I went there wishing to all that is holy that they will play it and they DID...
He said "... SquareEnix" and the entire hall yelled "FINAL FANTASY!" like our lives depended on it (and for some, it may have).
He noted it was Final Fantasy (the crowd went wild) and then started counting the numbers until it reached... (we yelled) "SEVEN!!!"
And he noted that as well and then said 'One....'
The hall became hell and yelled 'WINGED! ANGEL!!!!!!!!!!!' [One Winged Angel.. only the most popular tune to come out of the most popular game in the series] (Note: I yelled like a goon)
Then the familiar riff came on and it was mayhem.
It was a swarm of bees let loose in a honey factory.
It was demons let loose in heaven.
It was a cage of starving werewolves released into a maximum security prison.
It was chaos.
When the 'SEPHIROTH' part came on.. it was yell-dome for the world to hear.
Then it ended.
And we yelled for more. And they came back out for an encore.
[Previous lines deleted because... read below]
I sat at the edge of my seat.
Then he said "This is an oldie..."
And my memory went back to the YouTube video I watched where he said that and they played Castlevania.
I began pleading to all that was holy (and unholy) that my gut was right.
Then he continued "... but a goodie"
And BAM! a picture of Castlevania hit the screens and it was a rave party, a wedding, a drunken tumble in the sack all happening at once for me.
I have never yelled so much in my life.
When I heard the all-to-familiar Moonlight Nocturne... my heart fluttered in a way that no man/boy has ever made it flutter. (Maybe because they were showing the all too hot Belmont clan on screen)
By the time it ended.. I was so exhausted from the screaming but I didn't want it to end.
But all things must come to an end.
Then he said "See you next year" and I swore to whoever/whatever that answered my prayers before that I will go again no matter WHAT.
[FFVII was the last song. The first encore was Castlevania. The second encore was Chrono Trigger]

OH MY MUSHROOMS!
I WAS YELLING LIKE AN IDIOT!
When they were doing the 8-bit medley.. SJ and I felt old.
We used to play those games and we used to think it was the most awesome thing that we've ever laid eyes and hands on.
And nowadays, the games are all so advanced, you can't even tell it's a video game sometimes.
And we've not lived that long.. how much things have evolved since Pong, huh?
If the two guys responsible for VGL were standing in front of me, I'd give 'em both a big bear hug and thank them for reminding me of all the good times I had during my unsociable childhood.
The feeling was just the same as when I downloaded the NES/SNES emulators and started playing all the old games again.
I felt like the little girl waking up early just to play games.
I wanted the t-shirt but it was RM60 and it was just crazy so I bought the program book and a sticker with the space invader with headphones logo to remind myself of the night... (I think it won't be dramatising to say)... I spent three years waiting for.
P/S: BLOOD OF BAHAMUT ON DS BRING IT BITCH!
