... you wake up at 1PM and decide to make an Indonesian layer cake that will most likely take up half your day.
That's what I did.. I just did not realise that an Indonesian layer cake will take up the entire day and not just half of it.
My ankles now ache because I've been standing and walking the entire day and I smell of eggs.
The exciting thing about this cake is the fact that it probably has more egg yolks in it than it has butter or flour. The first thing you do is mix the egg yolks (19 yolks) with sugar and when it's all frothy and light you add in about two blocks of butter (okay, so it has a lot of butter too). I swear, by the time all the other ingredients are blended in, the smell is enough to make you salivate.
I spent most of my childhood in the kitchen watching my Grandma bake and this is the one cake that I really enjoyed watching (she revealed today that I was more of an annoyance than a spectator) and when my Mum said 'Let's make something' this is the cake I thought we should try making.
I think my Grandma very nearly bumped me outta the kitchen because apparently, I was doing things wrongly.
However, I was doing what her recipe said to do and she was doing what her recipe did not even mention.
But, I have learnt from my art course that different people have different styles.
So yes. The end result is worth all that trouble and aching ankles because it's like biting into a little bit of heaven. :)
Last night, in my desperate and final attempt to attain the ever so elusive Ai no Kusabi theme music score.. I e-mailed a man in Russia.
However, along the way, I also scored Michiyuki from Loveless, For Fruits Basket from Fruits Basket, Riki from Ai no Kusabi, Spirited Away's theme and a piece from Dissidia -Final Fantasy Final Order- that I've never heard of :)
I was quite baffled as to why he has Ai no Kusabi.. I wonder if he's seen the movie. He also had Gravitation pieces.
My old obsession might be coming back.. shoes! I've been dreaming of shoes.
Dreaming as in, literally!
Speaking of dreaming, I dreamt that I was on my kitchen island, sitting there and looking down at the kyupi babies (you know, the Japanese mayonnaise?? The baby logo they have?? The really scary looking cute babies?) staring up at me. ARGH!! It was the most traumatising thing EVER and nobody was there to help me.
Thank God it was just a dream and I'm officially off the mayonnaise till further notice.
